In Dutch ‘Bijna Thuis’ means “Almost Home” - and that's what you can say here, if anyone calls asking “where are you?”. This is the type of neighborhood bar where everyone knows one another by name! It’s a popular place for late-night drinks and a place to watch a Formula 1 race at 6AM on a Sunday morning, or other major sports events. Most of the time you will find the music controller in the bar, and anyone can choose a song. It’s a pretty laid-back hangout bar, though on the weekends they have popular local bands playing and it can get really crowded, and that just adds to the ‘Cheers’ style atmosphere.

This casual fun Beach Bar Restaurant is located just off Playa Lagun, a very popular snorkeling beach. For some reason it took us a while to discover this place, but we are happy we did. It has a long list of different styles of tasty Burgers, including Vegetarian and Vegan choice, and the chef is great on the grill, cooking up a variety of Meats and Freshly Caught Fish – all with a zesty Caribbean flair. It has a very laid-back Island speed vibe, so chill with a tropical Cocktail or Beer.

This fun Beach Shack Restaurant is right on the Beach with great views. The owners Thierry & Bob are full of love for the Island and the local food and are happy to adjust their menu to your dietary needs. For a laid-back causal Beach Meal with elevated food, this may just be your new go-to spot.

A must try while on Curacao! Everyone comes here for the Lumpia (Large Egg Roll). The crispness of the outside shell + freshness of the Crunchy Mung Beans inside + Chicken Filling = deliciousness. It's a popular inexpensive snack to grab for the road. Also a great spot to have a Beer and talk with some locals.
 TIP: If you like spicy food, choose Lumpia "KuPika" with local Hot Peppers.

You will find many fried treats at this Dutch snack bar, with classics like frikandel, bitterballen, kaas suflet, krocket, burgers, fries etc. If you love these types of foods or just want to try them, this is a great spot to stop by. The price point here is very affordable.

This restaurant is on the outside terrace of the Landhuis Dokterstuin, found on the roadway towards Westpoint, near playa Jerremy. They specialize in Authentic Local Carribean Dishes, (“Kuminda Krioyo”) with Seafood and Stews at the top of the list. Book ahead and plan it into a visit to one of the nearby beaches.

At Maira’s Kitchen, it’s all about cooking - Mediterranean inspired with a local touch. The Restaurant is cozy and easy-going, with a relaxed vibe. This is a favorite of everyone who lives in Otrobanda, Tourists, and the Otra Team too. It is a popular spot for Breakfast, Lunch and Early Dinners, and though it gets crowded there always seems to be one more miraculous seat available, either indoors or outside. This is the type of 'great vibes' place that has collected a devoted clientele of regulars, which to us says a lot - but mostly that ‘you’ll like it too’.

This restaurant/Bar/Terrace has a loyal crowd and welcomes newbies. It’s right across the road from the huge Williwood sign on the way to Coral Estates. The sign is appropriate, as the deck and restaurant have a wonderful wildness to them that reminds us somewhat of a Joshua Tree haunt in California. We hear the Lobster Nights are great. Marfa has created a totally unique place to have a laconic hang with good friends.

Located right on the water where the line-caught fish are brought in fresh each morning on the ‘Koredo’, this venue truly lives by their motto ‘We only serve Catch of the Day’! We can attest to their practice, as we walk past most mornings and stop to see what spectacular specimens the fishermen sustainably line-caught at dawn. This venue is tiny, cozy, friendly and full of authentic homespun atmosphere, charm and energy you just can’t find anywhere commercial. We highly recommend you give it a try...though the hours are limited and tricky to discern.

This open-air Restaurant / Bar is a big part of the heart of Kura Hulanda. We love it. Owner / Manager Alex has created a wonderful venue that cooks Local Cuisine farm-to-fork almost exclusively with local produce. We have tried almost everything on the Tapas Style Menu and it’s all great, with the Bowls and the Pancakes being Otra Team favorites. It has the right combination of ambience and decor. Due to their popular location, they sometimes get slammed with orders all at once, so put in your order and then browse the gift shops next door for a few minutes.

Sol Food is one of those venues that every local will tell you to visit, and then you may forget, because it’s up-island near Westpoint / Play Kalki. But don't forget it - it’s worth the drive and perfect to combine with a beach day. If a local told you to come here, they probably said, ‘Say hi to the owner Sunshine for me’, as she has one of those big personalities that everyone loves. The restaurant serves total comfort food inside a converted bright green house, mixing international and local dishes, and there is something for everyone...Salads, Fish, Steaks...Even Hot Dogs and Vegan Options. The Pizza and the Ice Cream Sundaes seem to get mentioned a lot. Note they are only open Friday, Saturday, Sunday for Lunch & Dinner. TIP: Popular for its weekend-only service and homemade recipes.
